MARVEL NEWS MINUTE: X-Men Delays and Deadpool Cancellation

Published

on

It hasn’t been a good news day for the mutant side of Marvel, on television and on the movie side. As time ticks down to Disney’s purchase of Fox, bringing the X-Men into the reach of Kevin Feige and Marvel Studios, the Fox-owned properties all seem to be pushed further down the line.

X-Men: Dark Pheonix has been pushed to February of next year. But it isn’t the only mutant property to head to the back-burner, New Mutants has also been delayed. New Mutants is more than just delayed, but there are major cast additions and re-shoots happening to the feature film.

But at least there is the television side, right? While some of the mutants are have a wonderful reception on television, we will never get to see the Deadpool cartoon written by Donald Glover, as the project at FX was recently canned. Glover didn’t leave the project quietly. Just like the character he was bringing to adult cartoons, he had a few words to be said after the project was killed, even releasing a script that may or may not have been the season finale.

Could all of this mean that Fox is falling apart, just before the keys are handed over to Disney?

Over in the MCU, things are looking a little bit brighter. While there has been no official renewal for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.the show is reported to be considered for renewal. As they wrap up a strong fifth season, the series has not had any official cancellation news.

Cloak and Dagger hasn’t premiered, yet, but the show-runners are already interested in a crossover with the other MCU show featuring teen heroes: Runaways. While the Runaways are usually on the west coast, there’s no telling where they could end up in Season 2, making this a possibility.

Finally, one of the rare Easter eggs in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 was revealed this week, when a fan pointed out that the writing around Stan Lee, during his cameo, was the Skrull language for “Excelsior!” However, the big Easter Egg, which Director James Gunn has teased, has yet to be found.

These topics and more will be discussed in next week’s Marvel News Desk Podcast. For the latest news, be sure to follow us on Youtube and subscribe to the podcast on your favorite podcasting service.

VIDEO: Marvel News Minute for March 14th

Published

on

Welcome to the Marvel News Minute!  This is a new video series launching here at Marvel News Desk.  The concept is simple enough: get all the latest Marvel film and TV news, quickly and easily.  Don’t mess with click bait and loading pages and pop up windows and all that mess.  Instead, one video, a minute or two long, where we give you the latest news quickly and efficiently.  On this edition we are talking about:

Deadpool 2 had some screenings and the results are decidedly mixed.

Nightwatch is happening and the talent involved includes Cheo Hodari Coker and Spike Lee!

Cloak and Dagger showed off their pilot at SXSW and the feedback has been good.

John Boyega is up for an MCU role but thinks that Wesley Snipes should remain Blade.

Tye Sheridan thinks X-Men: Dark Phoenix is more drama than a superhero movie.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is hiring some new actors to play young versions of famous HYDRA agents.

If you enjoyed this format, please subscribe to our YouTube channel so you can get updates everytime we drop these videos.  Tell us what you think of the concept.  Also, a big thank you to our supporters over at Patreon for helping to make these new efforts a possibility.  If you see a story you think we should add to the rundown, go ahead and give us a comment below or you can tweet us over on Twitter.  We’ll also post these videos here to Marvel News Desk so make sure to bookmark the page and check us out when you are cruising the web.
